Kenny Ortega - the choreographer behind the 50 planned London shows the 'King of Pop’ was rehearing for when he tragically died in June – revealed the documentary was pieced together from private footage of the star rehearsing and was never intended to be released to the public.
He said: 'The recordings were made so we could use them, then the tapes were destined for Michael’s private library. They have a real unguarded honesty to them.
'At first I got so many messages from fans around the world asking to see the shows, asking to see the footage and eventually I realised the journey wasn’t over and we had to do this.
'It is for the fans and the film will show the development and intentions of the show, and the concert as it moved closer to London.'

Michael Jackson planned to scrap his hit album Thriller because the mixes weren't right, taped conversations have revealed.
According to the News of the World, the late popstar cried when he heard the first version of the record.
"Thriller sounded so crap," Jackson said. "The mixes sucked. When we listened to the whole album there were tears... I just cried like a baby.
"I stormed out of the room and said, 'We're not releasing this. Call [record company] CBS and tell them they are not getting this album. We are not releasing this'."
He continued: "I felt terrible. One of the maintenance crew in the studio had a bicycle and so I took it and rode up to the schoolyard. I just watched the children play.
"And when I came back I was ready to rule the world. I went into the studio and I turned them songs out."
Jackson reportedly remixed one song a week and the album was eventually released in November 1982. It went on to sell 70 million copies worldwide.

The family feel fans would love to see a dramatic retelling. They want to cover his childhood and family life but really focus on when his career went into overdrive."
Although Norwegian Omer – who has worked as a Michael Jackson impersonator - denies Michael is his biological father, he has revealed the singer used to tell him he was 'like a son' to him.

Tito said: "We started doing harmonies and singing our favourite Motown songs and Michael and Marlon used to try to come in and join us and we'd kick them out.
"We wouldn't even give them the chance to open their mouths because we felt this was big boys stuff. Here we were, we were only 9, 10 and 11 ourselves."
He added: "Michael Jackson has always been amazing, even at that time. We didn't know it until we were invited to come see him perform at a school play and he had a song that he was singing.
"I can't remember the song but we heard him sing and our mouths flew open. We couldn't believe it! We immediately rushed him home and he was in our next rehearsal working with us. He was just born with it."

Jermaine Jackson wants his late brothers tribute show to be held at Wembley in the UK
Organisers World Tribute Productions are currently in negotiations with the London venue about moving the show there in 2010.
"We need time to confirm the location," a spokesperson told the BBC. "We are definitely moving to London and Wembley Stadium is our favourite location.
Jermaine claimed that newspaper reports from Austria mocking the lineup prompted the decision to hold the show in London.
"When artists who have won eight Grammy Awards and sold millions of records around the world and are able to sell out large stadiums are then called 'B-list artists', are made fun of and generally disrespected, is something I just cannot understand," he said.
"If these artists are not welcome in Vienna, London is more than happy to have them."

Macaulay Culkin father Jackson's son

It has been reported that Macaulay Culkin is the father of Michael Jackson's son Blanket
The 'Home Alone' star who became friends with Michael in 1990, when he was just 10 years old reportedly donated sperm to create Prince Michael II, known as Blanket.
The sperm was then inserted into an unknown surrogate mother, and Blanket was born in 2002, when Macaulay was 22 years old.
An insider told Britain's Sun newspaper: "It is well known Jackson and Macaulay shared a unique bond.
"Now rumours are spreading like wildfire that Macaulay, who Jackson nicknamed Mack, is actually Blanket's biological dad."
A source added: "This isn't just chitter-chatter, even Culkin suspects he's Blanket's father. So many names have been mentioned as prospective dads, and this is probably the wackiest yet.
"But Jackson and Culkin were best friends. He was one of the few people Jackson really trusted and Mack never let him down. Really, Jackson idolised him - that's why he asked Mack to donate sperm.
"Deep down, I think he always wished Mack was his son. Creating Blanket was the next best thing."

Detectives in Los Angeles have recently discovered the late pop legend had accessed AOL and Gmail accounts in the run up to his death in June from a suspected cardiac arrest and plan to search his personal messages for evidence he used them to acquire medicines illegally.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: 'They could hold vital evidence with regard to Michael’s death and the drugs he was using regularly. Not only did he get prescription drugs through a network of doctors, it’s believed he may also have got them from illegal websites or drug cartels. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has to get a search warrant first and this takes a few days.'

Katherine Jackson claims the pressures of the 50-date residency which her son was talked into led to his death.
She is believed to be targeting both the promoters behind the shows, AEG, and Michael’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, in a $100 million wrongful death lawsuit.
Katherine’s lawyer Burt Levitch said: 'The possibility of a wrongful death action has been floated.
"In that regard, no decision has been finalised. Dr. Murray's name has been put forward because he is under investigation.
"It's fairly obvious from press accounts that AEG had a very active role in Michael's life for the last six months. They paid for his home and for Dr. Conrad Murray."

Michael Jackson has earned £60 Million since his death
Executors of the singer's estate claim money from a film deal and merchandising contracts has "flooded" into Michael's bank accounts since he died in June.
They predict the pop superstar will make another £60 million by the end of the year, and expect him to overtake Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain and Elvis Presley – who have made £450 million and £362 million respectively from beyond the grave - as the highest-earning dead celebrity in the next 12 months.
Lawyer John Branca, who is co-executor of Michael’s estate, said: 'Clearly this will be a new record for estates that likely will not be broken. Elvis’ estate makes £33million a year. This will be a bigger estate.'
Branca and fellow co-executor, music executive John McClain, have put together a series of deals for commemorative coins, school supplies, a coffee-table book and a film.
They have also been retrieving funds held for Michael by anonymous creditors, thought to amount to "several million pounds", and tallying the value of the singer's property, memorabilia and art collections.

Michael Jackson was reportedly buried in a private funeral last Thursday.
Less than a dozen people attended the low-key ceremony at Hollywood's Forest Lawn Cemetery, where the singer was allegedly interred in Motown records founder Berry Gordy's mausoleum.
Michael's father Joe and sister La Toya are believed to have been the only family members to attend the secret service, which took place six weeks after the star died of a suspected cardiac arrest.
The Jackson family has refused to confirm where Michael has been buried because of fears fans will descend on his grave and even attempt to desecrate or steal his body.
A cemetery source said: 'Michael has already been laid to rest, but other than the Jackson family and the management at Forest Lawn, no one knows the exact spot.
'Staff at the cemetery have been fed several different locations, it’s as if they are hoping to confuse everyone so it can’t leak out.

"AEG has never received a copy of Dr. Slavit's medical exam. A second medical examination was scheduled in the UK when the tour arrived. The policy was issued in a fictitious name."
